Book Details: Decoratively bound in green pebbled-cloth with a raised leather spine, this volume features elaborate gilt tooling and lettering to the spine, full-edge gilt and moiré-patterned endpapers. The text is profusely illustrated with tissue-guarded heliogravues after Valerio and more than 160 engravings in the text, including 100 drawings by Poirson. A fold-out colored map entitled “Carte de L’Autriche-Hongrie Pour Servir au Voyage de Mr. Victor Tissot†further enhances this volume. The French title translates as “Hungary from the Adriatic to the Danube: Travel Impressionsâ€.
Condition / Notes: This beautiful antique book displays some typical indications of age and wear, including shelfwear and rubbing, with minor loss to the spine and high points. The rear hinge is cracked and there is an indentation to the rear board and a small portion of the text block edge. The binding and text block are sound. Text and illustrations are clear and crisp through mild to moderate age toning/foxing.
