Gottfried Hoffmann, a 17th-century Lutheran professor, taught at Tubingen University through the early 1700s, where his views of metaphysics, logic, and philosophy propelled his career as a theologian. He also wrote a commentary and history on the Augsburg Confession. Also known as the Augustan Confession, this work was one of the primary and most important documents of the Lutheran Church and Lutheran Reformation with early drafts composed by Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon.
