Description
**Originally Listed At $200**

West Africa, Fulani, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A very large brass belt from the Fulani peoples, many of whom are nomadic. Fulani are known for their elaborate body adornment and have traditionally worn jewelry and decorative ornaments made from copper or brass - created via the lost-wax casting process. This piece is comprised of 42 near-spherical beads and a very large, central pendant bead or amulet that resembles a wheel-like form adorned by a beaded border and cross-hatched termini. Quite long and heavy. Size: beaded chain measures ~ 32" L (81.3 cm); pendant/amulet measures 4.75" L x 3.125" W (12.1 cm x 7.9 cm)

Provenance: private Tacoma, Washington, USA collection

#131460
Condition
Well-worn surfaces commensurate with age. The patinas vary a bit due to the metals' differing compositions. Though the smaller spherical beads and the large pendant bead are both made of brass, the large pendant contains a bit more zinc.
