Guatemala, San Juan Sacatapequez or Aldea area, ca. mid 20th century CE. The cloth of a huipil (blouse), a bright royal blue rectangle with a red and purple stripe on the right edge. There are large, multicolored figures - greens, oranges, yellows, purples… - in eight rows decorating the center. These show birds, animals, and feathered serpents. The huipil is worn by the Maya people, made of two panels of cotton fabric woven on a backstrap loom joined at the sides. Please note that this piece is not sewn into the shape of a blouse, but is the cloth for one. Size: 56" L x 22" W (142.2 cm x 55.9 cm)
