**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A lovely necklace composed of a single upper strand which splits into five separate lower strands along the bottom. Dozens of tubular and seed beads are formed from faience in faded green, blue, and brown hues. To the Egyptians, faience was known as "tjehnet," meaning brilliant or dazzling. It was made by grinding quartz or sand crystals together with various elements. Faience beads were used in everyday jewelry and were also used to make burial nets to be placed over mummies. A gorgeous example of wearable ancient art! Size (necklace): 27.125" L (68.9 cm); size (largest bead): 0.6" L (1.5 cm).

Condition
Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Faience beads are ancient, and stringing and clasp are modern. Small chips to some beads, with fading to original color, and light encrustations. Nice patina across some beads.
