3 Chinese 19 C Jumping Carp shaped Water Pots or Water Droppers in sancai enamel over molded stoneware; one piece with the Christie's label. Marine encrustation, glaze flakes and 2 with a chip to the tail. Width 4 inches (10.2 cm.). Provenance: Christie's Diana Cargo of 1817 Auction, sold Amsterdam March 1995. NOTE: ''The Diana'' was owned by Palmer and Co. a powerful Calcutta ship owner and was licensed by the English East India Company to sail from Calcutta or Madras to Canton, carrying cotton and opium. The ship would then return to India from China, laden with silks, tea, preserved fruits and thousands of ceramics. On the 14th of March 1817, The Diana hit some rocks off the Straits of Malacca and sank. The wreck was identified and recovered in 1994 by Dorian Ball of Malaysian Historical Salvors.
