Chinese Emperor Jiaqing period blue and white porcelain platter with hand painted temple and lake scene; originally sold at Christie's Diana Cargo auction in Amsterdam in 1995, subsequently purchased from Harrod's London; The Diana was owned by Palmer and Co., Calcutta ship owners, and was licensed by the English East India Company to sail with goods from Calcutta to Canton, and on the return to India from China would transport silks, tea, and blue and white porcelain. The Diana was on one of these voyages when, on the 14th of March 1817, she hit some rocks off the Straits of Malacca and sank, the blue and white porcelain was raised from the ocean bed in 1994. Measures 9.25 x 12 inches.
