Barry Biesanz (b. 1948) Turned cocobolo wood bowl, 2013. Signed, dated, and inscribed "cocobolo" along the underside.
Barry Biesanz is a Costa Rica-based wood turner who creates usable art from lathe-turned wood. Biesanz works in local woods, although he is careful to use wood that is not endangered, since conservation of the local rainforests is a passion of his. He has exhibited all across the world with notable artists such as Bob Stockdale, and the government of Costa Rica has given his pieces as state gifts, so many can be found in the collections of presidents, popes, and royalty.
