"Our Nation's Flag by its Defenders"
We are fighting for our country,
We are fighting for our trust,
We are fighting for our happy land,
Where sleeps our fathers dust
It cannot be dissolved
Though it costs us bloody wars
We never give up the land
where float the Strips and Stars - Chorus
Hurah hurah for equal rights, Hurah!
Hurah for the brave old flag
That bears the strips and stars,...
This poem continues with verse mentioning (Fort) "Sumter," cotton, "rally round the brave old flag," and "we do not want your slaves," and "with Lincoln as our chieftain" plus more. A remarkable original Civil War Patriotic Union Poem written during the heat of the conflict.
