William Tryon Signed Accounting Document
Single page signed accounting document, 5.75" x 4.5". Dated 'March 18th, 1778", and signed by William Tryon as "Wm Tryon Gov". Document is backed, else near fine condition.
Governor William Tryon was a colonial governor of two provinces, North Carolina, 1765-71, and later New York, 1771-1780. Lovely signed document of an accounting of fees received for "54 Marriage Lycences issued … "
William Tryon (8 June 1729 – 27 January 1788) was a British general officer and a colonial official who served as the 39th Governor of New York from 1771 to 1780, assuming the office after having served as the eighth Governor of North Carolina from 1765 to 1771, although Tryon's policies during the American Revolution were described as savagely brutal by persons on both sides of the conflict.
