This is a magnificent, large world map on Mercator projection. In North America a series of rivers and lakes from Lake Superior to the Pacific represent the elusive the Northwest Passage. It shows undiscovered much of the northern part of North America. The Russian discoveries in the North Pacific show part of Alaska as an island named I. Unamak. Australia, not fully shaped yet, is labeled Nouvelle Hollande with Terre de Diemen linked to the mainland. New Zealand is fully formed and there are numerous islands shown in the Pacific. Antarctica is absent and Japan is miss-shaped. Large, decorative title cartouche and two fine compass roses with rhumb lines are shown.
