Description
John Lennon Crayon Doodle W/Copy of Handwritten 3-Page Letter of Provenance (Framed) - This interesting doodle was drawn by John Lennon during the late 1950s/early 1960s. The piece is done in red crayon and depicts two inverted faces smiling at each other, typical of Lennon's humorous mind. The drawing comes from the collection of the stepson of a Liverpudlian gentleman who befriended John Lennon during his Quarrymen days, when they struck up a conversation over a UFO magazine John was reading at the Woolton village fete on July 6th, 1957. Their common interest led to a friendship which lasted even after John Lennon moved to the U.S., and John would send his friend sketches and magazines covering subjects such as Science Fiction, Aliens and UFOs. The drawing will be accompanied by a copy of the original handwritten 3-page letter of provenance from the original owner's stepson explaining the fascinating history behind the piece (the original letter accompanies Lot 12 in this sale). This iconic piece of rock n' roll memorabilia has excellent investment potential, as John Lennon was arguably one of the most well-known and greatest singers of all time. Lennon's solo album sales in the United States alone have exceeded 14 million units, and he had 25 number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart as a writer, co-writer, or performer. An auction of Lennon drawings and manuscripts took place in 2014, and the collection exceeded $2.8 million. Measurements: drawing - 4" x 3.25", frame - 9.25" x 11".
