Description
Entitled "Washington Passing the Delaware, evening previous to the Battle of Trenton, Dec. 25th, 1776" after a painting by Thomas Sully ; etched by W. Humphrys ; engraved by G.S. Lang. Published by Samuel Augustus Mitchell, 1825 May 20th (printed by B. Rogers) Philadelphia. The black man attending Washington in the engraving is believed to be Prince Whipple, an enslaved man who was emancipated during the war. Engraving is housed in an antique gilt gesso frame. Frame, approx. 23 1/2" x 20", sight, approx. 19" x 15".
