A relatively early work by George Sand, the famous pseudonym of Lucile-Aurore Dupin (1804-76), a novella about a young girl of the lower ranks and her impractical infatuation with Andre, a young man of the upper ranks - a storyline intended to shed light on society's intolerance to marriages between the upper and lower classes.
