Description:
8vo, 19th century dark red straight-grained half morocco, marbled paper boards, gilt rules and lettering. Second edition; the first was published by Félix Bonnaire in 1835.
OCLC records three copies of this edition (Indiana, Princeton & NL Scotland) and five copies of the 1835 edition. A relatively early work by George Sand, the famous pseudonym of Lucile-Aurore Dupin (1804-76), a novella about a young girl of the lower ranks and her impractical infatuation with Andre, a young man of the upper ranks - a storyline intended to shed light on society's intolerance to marriages between the upper and lower classes.
Condition
Two armorial Selden bookplates on the front paste-down. Some spotting to the front endpapers; edges slightly rubbed; minor foxing; very good copy in a handsome binding.
