Description
1807 1st ed George Washington Life John Marshall Revolutionary War AMERICA
“The Constitution is colorblind, and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens.”
― John Marshall
John Marshall admired George Washington greatly and sought to publish a thorough biography on the Presidents life. It was based on written records that were provided by Washingtons family. However, two-thirds of this biography is concerned with Washingtons military career and depicts an accurate portrayal of the major battles of the American Revolutionary War (Sparks, preface). Larned even notes that this work is “one of the three most famous lives of Washington.”
This impressive first French edition was published in 1807 by Dentu, translated by Pierre Francois Henry.
