Description
A ceramic Egyptian model of house or other building, c. 2000 - 1000 BC, connection openings on the backside may indicate that it was likely joined to a larger structure and part of a larger scene. H: 7 1/8 in (18.1cm). Light surface deposits. Models of houses, often called 'Soul Houses', were placed within the tombs of the deceased to provide a comfortable afterlife. Beside models of houses are found a wide variety of scenes involving everyday life all designed to provide a comfortable quality of living in the afterlife. Ex collection of Elizabeth S. Loker, former Vice President of the Washington Post.
