Description
1880 History of England BEAUTIFUL Macaulay James Glorious Revolution Mary II 5v
Thomas Babington Macaulay was a 19th-century English historian known for his ‘History of England’. This five volume work, began in 1848, covers an important 17 year period at the end of the 17th-century in which he includes the reign of James II, the Glorious Revolution, and the joint reign of William and Mary.
While most historians find this work accurate and reliable, Karl Marx was highly critical of this work calling it a ‘systematic falsifier’. Perhaps this sentiment comes from Macaulay’s views of making the English royals to be legendary heroes in a narrative sort of manner.
According to J.R. Western,
“Macaulay's History of England has still to be superseded by a full-scale modern history of the period.”
