"Antique pair of Italian cityscape oil paintings by Felice Auguste Rezia (Italy, 1857-1906) depicts river scenes with structures and figures, signed bottom left F.A. Rezia, seated in giltwood frames. Measure - overall 19.25""h x 14.25""w x 2""d; sight 11.5""h x 6.5""w. Additional Information: Felice Auguste Rezia was born in Italy in 1835. He travelled widely but appears to have settled in London, marrying Mary Ann Shenstone on 31st December, 1870 at Marylebone. By 1881, the family was living in Camden, however he continued to travel to the continent to paint, earning a living from those on the Grand Tour. He specialised in painting the towns and landscapes of Italy and France, although he did also paint views of London. Rezia exhibited at the British institute with a number of landscapes including views of Como, Italy and a view near Rouen. He also exhibited at Suffolk Street with scenes of Rouen and Genoa.His style and subject matter are similar to that of Henry Schafer, although Rezia uses a lighter palette. ReziaÂ’s paintings were highly popular with tourists during his lifetime and continue to be collected around the world."
