Plate 61: Tereoboo, Roi D'Owyhee Apportant des Presents au Capitaine Cook.
Plate 65: Pirogue des Isles Sandwich, avec les Rameurs Masques.
Two maritime scenes from Captain Cook's third voyage. Pictured are two coastal scenes of indigenous outrigger paddlers, one featuring paddlers wearing the celebrated "makini" gourd helmets. "We never saw these masks worn but twice, and both times by a number of people together in a canoe ... laughing and drolling, with an air of masquerading." - Captain James T. Cook.
Condition
Some foxing within image areas and margins; plate 61 with a small split at bottom of fold; very good.
