A exceptionally fine copy of this syndicate edition published the same year as the Scribner edition. 9.5" x 6.5". 583pp.with over 200 photographic illustrations by Philip R. Goodwin, noted artist who illustrated London's Call of the Wild. Beautifully bound in publishers brown pictorial gilt cloth depicting a hunter shooting a lion who had attacked a native, pictorial spine, no names, no bookplates, no bumps, just a tape repair to the front and rear hinges. A handsome copy of one of Roosevelt's fabulous hunting books.1914: THROUGH THE BRAZILIAN WILDERNESS. New York: Scribners. First Edition. 48 photographic images, two full page maps and one folding map at rear. This is an account of his "zoogeographic reconnaissance" with Candido Rondan, the legendary Brazilian explorer to discover if the Rio da D ("River of Doubt") flowed into the Amazon. The travel was over the most dangerous territory of Amazonia and the river was renamed Rio Roosevelt in his honor. Bound in brown cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering and top edge gilt.
