Description

**First Time At Auction**

West Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba peoples, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden funerary statue of a highly-stylized anthropomorphic form. The figure stands on delineated legs atop an integral circular platform, has a stocky chest with sloping shoulders, and holds wide hands in front of the abdomen. The head is characteristically abstract and displays worn facial features such as diagonal eyes and a rounded chin, and the elongated forehead projects upwards and terminates at a small nubbin. Size: 2" W x 17.1" H (5.1 cm x 43.4 cm); 17.5" H (44.4 cm) on included custom stand.
