Strong, active, carved folk art prowling lion.

Item Details

Description

This is a strong and "active" carved prowling lion. It is carved from walnut with glass eyes, and mounted on a separately carved base. There is a varnish finish. It measures 16 1/2" long by 4 1/4" wide by 8" high. There are small holes in the tips of the front paws, as if separate claws were intended, but never added. The two rear feet are cracked through, but are both very solidly in place. Otherwise the condition is very good, with slight finish wear. The age is probably c. 1900.

This lot has a reserve.
