John Fothergill was an 18th-century English physician who made his fame as a Quaker missionary. He was a patron of a number of Quaker voyagers with whom he was quite close and he personally funded the production of the Quaker Bible. ‘Life and Travels of John Fothergill’ is an autobiographical account of Fothergill’s experience in America, particularly his visits to Maryland, Virginia, and New England. He describes the rise of Quakerism in the Northeast and the various people and groups he encountered.
