6 hand-colored engraved gore sheets, 2 sheets for the terrestrial comprising 12 gores, with a sheet for the meridian circle and the calottes, and the celestial likewise on 3 sheets, each sheet 245 x 325 mm (plate mark), deckle edges to the sheets, some light soiling and a few tears to the outer margins.
A fine and rare hand-colored set of the terrestrial and celestial 20 cm globes by Seutter. Seutter was born in Augsburg the son of a goldsmith, but began his career as an apprentice engraver with the Homann firm in Nuremberg. He moved back to Augsburg in 1707, set himself up in competition with Homann in 1710. The 20 cm globe pair were the first pair of globes he made.
