Antique German Folk Art handled bowl. Thick, salt glazed earthenware. Dark brown, almost black glaze, slipware dot decorations and inscription in cream white. Text in German "Gluck im Gans" roughly meaning "Happy and Healthy". Gerstungen, on the River Werra in Thuringia, Germany, made during mid to second half of the 19th century. Pottery production in the town dates back to the 16th century, and this bowl is a characteristic example of the specific type of earthenware produced in the region.
