Description
Harry Furniss (British, 1854–1925); Original Political Ink Drawing for Punch Magazine (Punch, or the London Charivari) published page 86, 25 August 1883, "The 'House' Boat, or A Parliamentary Thames-Bank Holiday (Suggestion for next Year, instead of the Greenwich Dinner)." Framed and matted; together with the original published page in a sleeve to the back of the frame. Good condition. Height of art 8 inches (20.4 cm.) X width of art 10 5/8 inches (26.9 cm.). NOTE: in 1883, Furniss was not yet on the staff of Punch which he joined the following year on retainer so that he could contnue working for most of the important periodicals of the time including the Illustrated London News. In his obit, the Times called him the most fertile delineator of the Victorian and Edwardian scene. He was believed to have died of 'overwork.' His considerable correspondence with Lewis Carroll was auctioned shortly after his death.
