Description
Paul Cadmus (American, 1904-1999) in the manner of: oil on canvas, signed and titled, unframed. Paul Cadmus was one of the pioneers of magic realism and sought out to explore the sensual, yet gritty aspects of his world. During his lifetime, his work, particularly his 1934 mural completed for the WPA, The Fleet’s In!, which depicted a group of drunken, bulging sailors interacting intimately with one-another, came under intense scrutiny for its overtly homosexual themes.
