Description
Pappenheimer style cup with stylized sun face, engraved fuller on the lower quarter of the blade, uniformly dark bullion and wire grip wrap.
Provenance: The family consigning this lot has provided the following information: 'Rapier purchased at Christie Auction in London May 15, 1967. Lot #242 - A fine swept hilt rapier - the blade 42 inches long with single fuller stamped 'De Toma De Aiala.' The lower part of the hilt lined with a halter pierced and embossed panel of masks, foliage and trellis work and with fluted pommel. Circa 1600.'
Blade measures 42 inches, 51.5 inches overall.

THERE IS A BREAK IN ONE OF THE CURVED BARS OF THE HILT WHERE IT MEETS THREE OTHERS, AS SHOWN IN IMAGES FIVE AND SIX. Some wear and even patina, good condition.
