Description
M-007 Early European "dog-lock" scatter gun. Circa 1690-1720. Unusual in that all metal parts still retain the original steel finish. Some age darkening spots are present, but can all be cleaned. Well made with a 26" partial octagon-shape which culminates into an eliptical-shaped barrel. One ramrod pipe 2 1/4" below the end of the barrel. Partial hallmarks which include "X's" might indicate an Amsterdam attribution. The superb military-type lock with a gooseneck hammer has wel fashioned parts. A 5 1/2" side plate has a Baroque appearance. An arrowhead finial on the trigger guard (stamped "2") is also used on the steel butt plate. Worm holes attest to the age of the stock which is still very solid. A unique scarce weapon. (This weapon was passed down for generations by a French family and brought to the United States following the Franco-Prussian War. It has not been out of the family's possession since that time and only recently consigned for auction). Rare. II+
