Description

David W Judd THE STORY OF THE THIRTY-THIRD N Y S VOLS OR TWO YEARS CAMPAIGNING IN VIRGINIA AND MARYLAND 1864 L C Mix Engraved Illustrations US Civil War New York Elmira Potomac Lincoln Canandaigua Biographies Officers Regiments

Title: The Story of the Thirty-Third N. Y. S. Vols: or Two Years Campaigning in Virginia and Maryland
Author: David W. Judd - David W. Judd was a correspondent of the New York Times.
Publisher: Benton & Andrews
City: Rochester
Year: 1864
Binding Style: Hardcover
Pagination: 349, 76 pages, plus advertisements
Width: 5" Height: 7.5"
Book Details: This antique volume is bound in blindstamped brown cloth with gilt spine lettering and ornamentation to the front board. An engraved preliminary title page and illustrations from drawings by Lieut. L. C. Mix enhance this text.

From the Preface: "It aims merely, as the title page indicates, at giving a narrative of one of the many Regiments which the Empire State has sent into the field, together with a description of the various campaigns in which it participates...The plan, as will readily be seen, comprises separate sketch of each company until merged into the Regiment; the regimental history from the period of its organization at Elmira, in May, 1861, until its return from the war, May, 1863; brief biographies of the various officers, and muster rolls of the men...A double interest attaches to the numerous engravings which embellish the volume, from the fact that instead of being gotten up to order, they were "drawn on the spot" by a skilful artist - an officer of the Regiment - who participated in all the scenes through which it passed. They constitute in themselves a pictorial history of the first two years of the Eastern campaigns.
Condition / Notes: This antique volume displays some typical indications of age and wear, including shelfwear and rubbing. The spine is cracked and shows loss. The text block is cracked and the volume is partially disbound. The text and engravings are clear and crisp through mild age toning/foxing.
