Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 19th century CE. Finely detailed in in egg tempera and gold leaf atop gesso on wood, a miniature icon depicting the monastic brothers Saints Tarasii Glushitskii and Amfilokhii Glushitskii dressed in hooded dark episcopal vestments. Each brother holds a scroll, standing in profile, and appear to be speaking to one another. Both brothers were 15th century missionary monks in the Western Siberian region of Perm, and laid the groundwork for the Glushitskii Monastery that was built some two centuries later in the Northern region of Russia. Size: 2.1" W x 2.55" H (5.3 cm x 6.5 cm).

Condition
Wear and minor losses around peripheries and interior composition as shown. Fading and losses to paint, and minor discoloration throughout. Nice areas of craquelure. Two small pierced suspension holes on upper side and top of verso, with sticker adhesive residue on verso.
