Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. Carved from cow / ungulate bone, a petite rectangular plaque presenting the frontal face of an erote in low relief with a finely detailed visage crowned by a wavy coiffure - framed by a narrow border. Joining this is a miniature altar that stands on integral pedestal feet with a slightly raised rectangular panel atop and an incised linear band to create an upper border on one side. Size: plaque measures 1.875" W x 1.375" H (4.8 cm x 3.5 cm)

Altar shows chips to "feet" and nicks to peripheries and upper face with expected surface wear commensurate with age. Plaque shows losses to peripheries and expected surface wear as well as nice red and black deposits in recessed areas.
