Large antique beer stein, made of thick stoneware with it's original pewter lid.All hand painted, with a Masonic decoration up front - shaking hands in front of a four-column building, encircled with blooming branches, stemming from a cartouche with the freemason Square and Compass symbol.High-relief banded ornamentation all over.Marked near the handle - 3L - indicating the 3-Liter volume it can contain.Ornamented pewter lid and handle finial - foliate patterns.Marked on the underside with a circular mark - M & W GR.Manufactured by Steingutfabrik Merkelbach & Wick A.G. The company was founded in 1880 in the town of Grenzhausen and is known for their production of beer steins, vases and ewers. This mark was used during the period 1880-1921.
