Description
**First Time At Auction**
Indonesia, Borneo, Central Kalimantan, Dayak peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A dark wooden slit drum, carved from a single piece of wood, with a zoomorphic form. One end is the head of a bird with a massive curved beak, partially opened as if in mid-squawk. The other end resembles a small spray of tail feathers. Between these two terminals is a cylindrical body with a thin slit carved through it; notches along the cylinder alter the sound. Blue glass beads form the eyes of the bird. Please note that although it is displayed horizontally, it would have been used vertically. Size: 2" W x 15.25" H (5.1 cm x 38.7 cm); 6" H (15.2 cm) on included custom stand.
