Author: Jean-Baptiste Du Hamel - Jean-Baptiste Du Hamel, Duhamel or du Hamel was a French cleric and natural philosopher of the late seventeenth century, and the first secretary of the Academie Royale des Sciences. As its first secretary, he influenced the initial work of the Academie, but his legacy and influence on the Academie and the growth of science in France is mixed.

Book Details: This handsome antique volume is bound in quarter leather with marbled boards.

The title translates roughly:
Speculative Theology and Practice, The Teachings of the Holy Fathers Discussed and Adapted for use in Schools.

The Author, Joanne Baptista Du Hamel is further described on the title page as: Priest, District Professor of Philosophy, as well as the Royal Academy of Sciences partner.

The title page of the first volume is printed in red and black. This work is illustrated with title page vignettes, head- and tailpieces and ornamented initials and the text appears in double columns.
Condition / Notes: This antique set shows very well bound in quarter leather and marbled paper-covered boards with leather-tipped corners, raised bands and the spines and stamped gilt lettering.

The books show some age/wear externally concentrated at the extremities, including chipping and cracking along front and rear edges and spines reinforced with heavy black tape. The bindings are tight and hinges of both volumes are cracked. The pages are clean and bright.

A small library label is visible at the foot of the spine of the first volume. Library card pockets are attached to the rear pastedowns. Library markings appear on the recto and verso of the title pages.
