Description
Oil stick drawing on ruled notebook paper, untitled (crowned head), signed* (Jean-Michel Basquiat, 1960-1988). 10 3/8 x 7 7/8 inches. The paper has various blemishes, apparently contemporary to the work. Unframed for inspection and post-auction shipping.
Provenance: Acquired from Jed Johnson (Andy Warhol's lover) by the former owner's father in or around 1984. Bequeathed to the former owner who later gifted it to the consignor.
Lot Note: Jed Johnson was an American interior designer and film director. Initially hired by Andy Warhol to sweep floors at Warhol’s Factory, he subsequently moved in with Warhol and became his lover. (Wikipedia)
Johnson was a long-time friend of the former owner's father. The former owner's father met Johnson shortly after he became acquainted with Andy Warhol. They conducted business together and remained friends until Johnson’s tragic and untimely death in a plane crash on July 17, 1996.
