Description
A fascinating and highly original mixed media painting on heavy paper stock, possibly painted by Gustav Klimt, 1862-1916, or if not, certainly a close follower of him. A pure Viennese Sezessionist work. It seems painted with various colored Conti sticks, possibly some type of wax 'crayons' some chalks and watercolors. The background filled with broad rhythmic, symbolic design; that's topped with some rather serious looking Germanic type men. The foundation paper is heavy, yellowed from exposure, but supple enough, not yet brittle and from the turn of last century with no apparent watermark. The painting is untouched and perfect, the upper border has two corner tack holes and an old yellowed tape attachment. 26.75" high x 11 3/8" wide.
