The underside with assayer Cyrillic mark MK for Mikhail Mikhailovich Karpinsky, Saint Petersburg, 1826, and makers Latin initials G:A:B, .875 silver standard. Each of a simple form, with shallow well, reeded rim, and chased with the Imperial double-headed eagle; 9 3/4 in. Diam., 89.45 ozt t.w.; Collection of US Ambassador to the Soviet Union, Joseph E. Davies and his wife, Marjorie Merriweather Post, acquired in the Soviet Union. Then by descent, estate of US Senator Joseph Davies Tydings, Maryland.
