This is a very fine and rare Eket mask from Nigeria, Africa. This lunar-shaped facial mask was created for use by the ekpo society , a society based on ancestor worship, and was presented at the yearly yam festival and important funeral ceremonies. It is distinguished by the large incised and colorfully painted vessel like form on the top of the mask, and the refined mask face. From a Dutch Collection.The Mask measures 25 inches tall x 7 inches wide.Completely original untouched patina.
