Description
Ancient Greece, Boeotian, Archaic Period, ca. 725 to 700 BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown pottery kantharos with a slightly concave base, a globular body, a petite flared rim, and a pair of high-arching handles. The vessel is decorated with concentric horizontal circles and vertical zigzagging lines in applied black slip atop the tan ground. This kantharos once boasted an entirely black-hued interior, though much of the original coloration has faded over time. A fine and early example of utilitarian Boeotian pottery! Size: 4.75" W x 2.5" H (12.1 cm x 6.4 cm).
