Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1000 to 1400 CE. A hand-carved wooden drinking cup known as a kero (quero) with a flat base, a slightly corseted midsection which expands gradually outwards, a deep interior cavity, and a thick, flared rim. The exterior of the vessel displays two separate registers of raised abstract zoomorphic figures, each delineated by a solid central ring around the body. A fine and rare example covered in gorgeous espresso-hued patina. Size: 5.625" Diameter x 5.875" H (14.3 cm x 14.9 cm).

Loss to area of rim, with minor nicks to base, body, raised details, and rim, and fading to some raised details. Light earthen deposits and fine brown patina throughout.
