One of the first coins to depict Jesus Christ! Byzantine Empire, Michael IV, 1034 - 1041 AD. Bronze follis, set into stunning .925 silver bezel. 3/4 length figure of Christ Antiphonetes facing, wearing nimbus cruciger, pallium and colobium, raising right hand in benediction, holding book of Gospels, IC-XC in fields. / IC-XC NI-KA in two lines divided by a jeweled cross with globules at the extremities. W: 31 mm, weighs 19.11 grams total. Ref: DO 4; SB 1825. Coin with dark coppery tone. Ex De Pere, WI private collection. Great portrait!
