Item Details
Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pretty, pale green translucent bottle with a slightly concave base showing a rough pontil, a rounded piriform body that tapers gradually to a narrow shoulder and a pinched neck base, a short tubular neck, and wide rim that flares outward. A layer of pale pearlescence coats much of the interior body, giving the surface an almost soft appearance. A very thin trailed line of applied glass wraps around the central body five times. Size: 3.15" W x 6" H (8 cm x 15.2 cm)

Condition
Intact, with pearlescent patina, especially on the mouth, and some encrusted deposits on the interior and lower exterior. Vessel possesses a pontil scar or mark which indicates that the vessel was free-blown. (The absence of such a mark would suggest that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.)
