Description
A CASED T.O. BLAKE SIKES HYDROMETER, LONDON, 1920-1940, the mahogany case with inset bone identification plate "SIKES HYDROMETER, T.O. BLAKE, 58, HATTON GARDEN, LONDON," and brass swing hinges, opening to red silk upholstered top, the red plush covered bottom containing a brass hydrometer labeled "SIKES" with serial number "5401," and ten carved bone rods, eight with circular weights with matching serial number and labeled "10, 20, 30, 50, 60, 80, 90". Height: 2 1/8" Width: 8 1/8" Depth: 3 7/8" NOTE: Hydrometers were used by distillers to determine the strength of spirits and to provide an accurate method of determining the proof of alcoholic beverages.
Condition
Two weights missing (40 and 70) as well as original thermometer, otherwise fine.
