A JAPANESE SATSUMA BOWL WITH FLOWER CRESTS
Satsuma ceramic
Japan, late 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912)
The cream-colored bowl covered in dense craquelure, the inside plain and the outside decorated with beautifully arranged crest-like medallions in gilt and polychrome enamels with various floral motifs including kiku blossoms, plum blossom, grasses and rose mallow.
Old wooden base. (2)
Shape: Footed tea bowl
Dimensions: Height 7 cm, Diameter 12 cm
Condition: Good condition, some rubbing to the enamel
Provenance: American private collection – old collection number ‘AC228’ on the base
