The Nevadan (with American flag, and AH flag for American-Hawaiian Steamship Co.), oil on canvas, signed 'Fred Pansing' (lower left), Christie's label verso, 28x48in. including painted border, metal frame, Opening Bid $5000 Condition: UV light reveals inpainted spot (2x1.25") above left of bow, two (.5") spots above and below ship toward stern, else a few minor scattered spots, also retouch to bottom edge of green border, relined, protective backing board. Provenance: Property of a gentleman, bequeathed by his father who was an executive at the American-Hawaiian Steamship Co. This painting hung in his office in New York City for many years and was gifted to him upon his retirement in 1968. Offered by Christie’s, New York, Rockefeller Center, February 1, 2006, Sale 1622, Lot 229, unsold. Note: According to a New York Times article dated Jan. 22, 1902, the Nevadan was launched on Jan. 21, 1902 in Camden NJ. It was built for the American Hawaiian Steamship Company. It was 371 feet long, and 46 feet in beam. Her tonnage was 5,800 and had a speed of thirteen knots.
