Description
Classical World, Etruria (Italy), ca. 7th to 5th century BCE. A lovely bucchero vessel with a sophisticated decorative program and an elegant form comprised of a piriform body resting on a flat circular base, an everted ringlike collar at the juncture between the body and the flared neck which rises to a wide mouth, and a wide strap handle joining rim to shoulder. The upper body of the vessel is adorned by four impressed fan-like motifs below a row of four impressed feather-like motifs. Six incised linear bands wrap around the mid-section just below the fan motifs, and eight grand triangular/chevron motifs rise from the base to these bands. An attractive vessel, impressive for its graceful form and elegant decorative program. Size: 5.375" in diameter x 9.5" H (13.7 cm x 24.1 cm)
