Item Details
Description
LEE/ROSE NO. 459-D/E CUP PLATE, unrecorded translucent jade green, 43 even scallops. Most certainly unique. Probably Boston & Sandwich Glass Co. 1830-1850. 3 7/16" D.
At first glance this plate appears to be in poor condition, under close examination it seems that it is as it left the factory (probably picked off the cullet pile as a souvenir). Twelve scallops are erased or tipped due to open bubbles, another scallop is erased by an area of exfoliation to the reverse, what appears to be a crack is evident across the front and back but it is only on the surface having no depth, and the plate still has an excellent resonance. That said, this plate is still pretty much a visual wreck.
Literature: Lee/Rose - American Glass Cup Plates, p. 275.
Provenance: Collection of the late Alvina Breckel of Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL._x000D_
Jeffrey S. Evans (T/A GVA), 11/11/07, lot 2270_x000D_
Ex-collection of Anne and Leon Powell (retains collection label)._x000D_
Collector's Sales and Services, 8/8/95, lot 126, miscataloged as L/R No. 459-M.
Catalogue Note: It seems that Lee/Rose Nos. 459-D and 459-E are the same plate with all measuring 3 7/16" plus or minus.
