Description
LEE/ROSE NO. 124 CUP PLATE, colorless, 16 scallops with points between. Extremely rare. Midwestern, probably Pittsburgh. 1830-1845. 2 7/8" D.
Very good condition, partial loss of one scallop and adjacent point, otherwise only a lightly tipped scallop and very lightly tipped point.
Literature: Lee/Rose - American Glass Cup Plates, p. 110. Bilane - Cup Plate Discoveries Since 1948, p. 8 updates rarity. Like Bourne - The William J. Elsholz collection, Vol. I, p. 160, lot 617. The McKearins - American Glass, pl. 176, fig. 50, "100 Best" clear.

Catalogue Note: This is the first example of this plate that we have sold. Rose noted "We have never seen this plate in good condition." An example from the Marble collection was included in the 1954 Corning exhibit (case 39, #688) and included by Rose in his new "100 Best" clear list.
