19th century Edo period Japanese kashira (metal pommel at the end of the hilt of a sword) decorated with several bamboo stems with leaves, design continuing on the sides, all on punched ground. Shakudo (alloy of copper and gold) with characteristic black patination resembling lacquer, gilding to the leaves. Elegant design, superbly made piece with crisp metalwork and gilding, in excellent condition. Length 1 5/16 inches.
